PDFShock is a personal, non-commercial project published by Maxime Thierry, a private individual, who is also the publication director. You can reach him at [email protected].
The site, available at pdfshock.com, is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA.
The source code is published under the AGPL-3.0 license on GitHub. PDFShock is built on MuPDF by Artifex Software.
Your PDFs are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded or stored on a server. This site has no accounts and sets no cookies.
To count how the site is used, it sends anonymous events with no cookie, no identifier and no file content: a visit, a compression (file size before and after, and the chosen preset) and a game played. They are only added up into totals and daily totals.
The mini-game has a public leaderboard, the Hall of zappers. If you choose to submit a score, the top 10 shows the name you typed (5 letters or digits), your score and the date. Pick a name that does not identify you.
The counters and the leaderboard run on a server operated by Maxime Thierry in France, at api.pdfshock.com, reachable only through Cloudflare. Your IP address is used only in memory to limit abuse and is never stored. Only the top 10 and the totals are kept.
Cloudflare, based in the United States, processes connection data, including IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site. Its retention and transfers outside the EU follow Cloudflare's privacy policy. Links to Ko-fi, GitHub and Figma lead to sites with their own privacy policies.
